Can your business spring clean its way to success?

Posted onPosted on 23rd Feb

The seasons are changing, the storms are passing, and we are now rapidly heading towards the time of year where we start to think about spring cleaning. Whilst this is typically in our homes, it is good to consider our businesses too.

To help give you some inspiration on how to get started, Ben Yeardley, director of Loxleys Self Storage in Mansfield, shares his advice on how ‘spring cleaning’ your business could be the perfect way to boost your productivity and success levels?

Business space

Spring cleaning isn’t just about getting a duster into those long-forgotten corners and clearing out the cobwebs, it should also focus on taking a peek inside those cupboards, boxes and containers to see what we have been hanging on to. You might reveal plenty of things that you had forgotten you owned, as well as a lot of items that you probably never needed anyway.

Since September 2020, Mansfield District Council has seen a surge in business start-ups, all looking for space to work in the town. This means that the space businesses have needs to be used effectively, as expansions are not necessarily available thanks to more and more people snapping them up. There are many office centres which are now experiencing huge levels of demand for their workspace as Covid restrictions ease and business get back to normal operations or start from fresh. That means that your spring clean needs focus on how to free up more space within this booming environment and make the most of what you have.

Instead of using essential floor space for shelving, units and storage, you can put it to far better use by bringing in more desks, salon chairs or retail units. This is a great way to increase your workforce or your earning power without having to look for new premises.

To do this, try being brutal over the things you are holding on to. If they haven’t seen the light of day for a while, then they probably don’t need to, and you can throw them away, donate them or recycle them. If it is essential paperwork, then try making digital copies instead, after all, a hard drive is much easier to store than a filing cabinet.

Storage space

Of course, there will always be things that you cannot get rid of. This might be extra stock, important equipment or essential records, and finding a more efficient place to store these can also work in your favour. Renting a self-storage unit can solve all of your problems by providing huge amounts of storage space for everything you need at a fraction of the cost of office and retail space in the heart of Mansfield.

It is a great solution for businesses of any size as it offers convenience and flexibility. You can choose the size of the space that you need, control who has access to it and some can even provide transportation to help you move everything. It also makes stock-taking much easier, as it is all in one place and is easy to access.

This is a great option for seasonal stock that may not need to resurface until the summer or Christmas, and everything will be kept safe, dry and secure at all times. It is also useful while you transform your business, redecorate or move to new premises, making the whole process much easier.

They say that a tidy home leads to a tidy mind and the same can be said about your business. By refreshing your working space, you can take a fresh look at everything within it. It can help to boost your productivity and enthusiasm for your work, and give you a new energy to help make 2022 your best business year yet.
