‘Amazing’ awards success for mum and her salon

A Sutton hair and beauty salon is celebrating after proving that it really is a cut above the rest!

Jade Gray, director of Acut Above The Rest on Outram Street, said the company’s success at the ninth English Hair And Beauty Awards was an amazing achievement.

The business was named Most Wanted Salon Of The Year at the showpiece event, where more than 450 hair and beauty professionals gathered at The Delta by Marriott Hotel, Nottingham.

Jade added: “It’s been a hard few years during the pandemic, so it was amazing to win for my company and my hard-working team.

“In this industry women should all stick together, try to empower everyone and keep positive. We are all winners in my eyes.

“A massive thank-you to all our clients, old and new, because this wouldn’t be possible without their continued support.

“Thank you to all our families and friends for being our best cheerleaders. Our journey hasn’t been easy but it’s been worth the ride.

“And thank you to our team members for always giving 110%. It means the world to me.”

The salon, which picked up four accolades at the British Hair and Beauty Awards last year, was among more than 30 winners.

Jade said she has built up the business over the past five years to make a life for herself and her three sons, including one who is disabled.

“I also wanted to show that being a mum you can still achieve anything. I have built an amazing talented team, including my sister, my mum and family friends.

“I also have my own training academy, which was given award last year, and we have been put forward for another six awards.”

She is hoping to be named Aesthetic Clinic Of The Year for a third successive year and also plans to raise money for the community and charities.

The awards showcased make-up artists, nail technicians, aesthetic clinics, hair and beauty teams, and colour specialists amongst others.

Organisers said the event highlighted the winners’ passion for the hair and beauty industry and dedication to excellence.

A spokesperson added: “The hair and beauty sector plays a vital role in the country’s economy and enhances the local community by employing hundreds of staff.

“The awards showcased those who promote excellence, set the trends and turn any dream look into reality.”
