Metal railings and gates manufacturer Alpha Rail, based in Kirkby, has launched a £1,000 competition for schools considering installing or renewing metal railings, gates or other architectural metalwork.

Alpha Rail said it was a way to engage pupils by asking them to submit ideas for bespoke artwork the school could incorporate into their project.

Sales director Phil Ball, pictured, said: “Introducing coloured laser-profiled themes on railings allows schools to feature designs done by the children themselves. This helps give everyone a sense of pride and belonging that will last for many generations.”

To enter, schools or architects, designers or landscapers working on their behalf, should send details of their project to Alpha Rail and request a quote. All enquiries received before 30th May, where the quote exceeds £5,000, will be entered into the prize draw. One school will win £1,000 of bespoke architectural metalwork featuring its school logo, a motif or design done by its children.
