Business boss opens up about gambling addiction to help others

Posted onPosted on 9th Jul

The director of Huthwaite business CCM Group, Trent Peek, is the face of the latest TalkBanStop campaign to raise awareness of the free resources available to anyone struggling with gambling during the European Championship this summer.

Trent opened up about his history with gambling problems and his journey to recovery in January, which he shared in a LinkedIn post. He was then approached by GamCare to star in their latest campaign to raise awareness of the free tools and support that are available to help people stop gambling.

GamCare, which operates the National Gambling Helpline, revealed that during and post major sporting events there is an increase in calls to the helpline and is encouraging people to use the free resources and tools available through TalkBanStop.

TalkBanStop brings together gambling support organisations, including GamCare, Gamban and GAMSTOP, which offer a combination of free tools to block access to gambling websites, to self-exclude from gambling accounts and offer support to help those worried about their gambling to take back control.

Trent said: “Supporting GamCare in their mission to promote safer gambling is something that I’m incredibly proud to be a part of, and something I’ll be forever grateful for.

“Being involved in this campaign allowed me to share my own personal story, alongside other inspiring individuals. It was an emotional day of filming but it’s been amazing to see the campaign come to life.”

Anna Hemmings, chief executive of GamCare, said: “We want to encourage anyone worried about themselves or someone else to contact us – we can offer expert advice and arrange for them to get the support they need. We want people to feel that taking the first step, by seeking non-judgmental help from our trained advisers, is a positive move, and get the free tools and support available through TalkBanStop.

“Gambling can cause serious harm and we welcome discussion to bring this problem to the public consciousness, and to ensure we can secure sustainable funds to meet the needs of those affected.”
