Isabel Walton, trainee at independent funeral directors A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service, was named Apprentice of the Year at the Nottinghamshire Live Women in Business Awards.

Isabel (above) started the company’s four-year residential trainee course in 2019.

It offers the opportunity to work in each department of the business and gain five qualifications to kick-start a career in the funeral industry.

Isabel said: “I feel honoured. From the age of 15 I knew I wanted to start a career in the funeral industry and feel proud of how far I’ve come since.”

Since joining the programme, Isabel has gained experience in various areas of the A.W. Lymn business, including stone masonry, floristry, coffin preparation and the mortuary.

In doing so, she has passed the BRAMM (British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons) fixing exam and received the Institute of Advanced Motorists Membership (IAM).

In 2020, Jackie Lymn Rose, company director at A.W. Lymn, received the lifetime achievement award at the Women in Business Awards.

Jackie said: “We are so proud of Isabel for receiving this award. The past two years have been particularly challenging, but Isabel continues to remain professional and support families during their time of need.”
