Activities revealed for Open Weekend at Lammas

Posted onPosted on 19th Jan

Lammas Leisure Centre and Hucknall Leisure Centre are set to celebrate their huge refurbishments – by hosting an Open Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, January 22-23.

Both venues, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Ashfield District Council, have unveiled a wide range of activities which the community can enjoy.

This will allow people to see and experience the state-of-the-art facilities on their doorstep, the result of a £22.5m investment in leisure across the district, which includes the upcoming Kirkby Leisure Centre in Kirkby.

A range of free and paid-for activities will take place across Lammas and Hucknall over January 22-23. These are split into timed sessions, which can be booked via the Everyone Active app or through reception.

At Lammas, public skating is available in the refurbished ice rink and the state-of-the-art TAGactive Arena and soft play will be available to try out.

There will also be family swimming, public swimming, sensory swimming and aqua fit.

At Hucknall, virtual fitness classes, rig classes and a free squash tournament are due to take place.

Taster swim lessons and sessions with the new pool inflatable are also on offer, as are badminton, table tennis and Active Antz.

Lorenzo Clark, Everyone Active contract manager, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to see the huge range of upgrades at Lammas and Hucknall over the past year.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming the public and showing there is something for everyone at the centres, no matter what your age, interests or ability.”

Coun Rachel Madden, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “After millions of pounds of investment, Lammas and Hucknall leisure centres are some of the best in the area with state-of-the-art facilities to suit all interests and fitness levels.

“I’d encourage all residents to come down to the Open Weekend and check out the fantastic range of activities available. The new TAGactive at Lammas is the only one of its kind in the area and fun for whole family to enjoy.

“There has never been a better time to enjoy our leisure centres, and with the new Kirkby Leisure Centre due to open in June, we really are leading the way with our leisure transformation.”

For more information on the Open Weekend, members of the public can contact reception at Lammas (0162 351 1177) or Hucknall (0115 956 8750).

Lammas launched its innovative TAGactive Arena at the start of this month, a game for all ages that takes place in an obstacle course arena split into zones, each of which contain a large number of illuminated TAGs.

That sits alongside the new soft play, featuring distinct zones for juniors and toddlers, while the ice rink has undergone a substantial face-lift.

Among the exciting developments are new flooring, a new ice refrigeration plant, new seating and a new serving hatch which allows access to the café.

The enlarged fitness suite now ranks among the finest in the region, with no fewer than 150 stations and a vast array of top-of-the-range equipment.

A new group cycling studio and the refurbishment of the café and reception complete the improvements.

Hucknall Leisure Centre has also undergone a raft of impressive upgrades, including a new 120-station gym filled with state-of-the-art equipment.

A new earth studio focusing on holistic activities such as Pilates, yoga and barre has been introduced, as have an indoor cycling studio and main studio.

Front of house has been refurbished and a new wellbeing hub has been added for community groups.

Work on the new wetside changing village is due to be completed soon, while planning permission for the new £2.7m teaching pool was granted by Ashfield District Council in December.

More is to come, with the £15.5m Kirkby site due to feature two swimming pools, a superb 80-station gym, climbing wall, soft play and sports hall.
