A wish tree for peace

Mansfield Quakers have invited the public to write messages for peace and tie them to a Yoko Ono-inspired Wish Tree For Peace at its Old Meeting House, Rosemary Street, on Remembrance Sunday, 9th November.

From 10.30am the Quakers are meeting to honour those who have died during conflicts, pray for peace and invite passers-by to contribute to the peace tree.

People have been invited to write their wishes for peace and tie them to a tree branch as part of Yoko Ono’s interactive artwork Wish Tree (1996). There are more than one million wishes at the base of the Imagine Peace Tower.

Yoko has encouraged schools, workplaces and communities to create wish trees and send their wishes.

The tower, an outdoor light installation in memory of John Lennon, in Reykjavík, Iceland, is lit on significant dates.
