Where individuality is cherished

Saville House School is an affordable independent day school for 3 to 11 year-olds.

Children are nurtured and inspired, igniting pupils’ interests throughout their entire school life, so they become well-rounded, confident, and enthusiastic young people — both now and in the future.

Saville House is proud to be an inclusive and open school, where there are no entrance exams or strict admission requirements.

Nestled securely in the centre of Mansfield Woodhouse, the school has class sizes of around 12 children.

It’s an environment any parent would want for their child. Education can be a scary place but the overriding atmosphere at Saville House is warm, welcoming and non- threatening — a haven for any child and reassuring for any parent.

There can be no finer endorsement than that of Natalie Drewery.

Unhappy with the assigned school her two children were attending, and faced with no state alternative, Natalie visited Saville House and very quickly transferred both of her children.

Delighted with her children’s personal and academic development, Natalie was horrified to learn that the school might be facing closure.

So, moving very quickly, with the backing of her family business, they took on the responsibility of the school in August 2021.

The school’s new headmistress, Claire King, supported by her deputy, Chantal Hill, and their team, identify children’s gaps and close them. ‘Traditionally school interventions include more of the same, but Saville House

School ensures that the identified gaps are supported in order for the children to make accelerated progress. At Saville House they ensure all children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. No child misses out!

The aim is to ensure every child has the best possible education, one that fosters an enthusiasm for learning — giving children the best possible start to their education by providing a stimulating, vibrant learning environment.

Saville House prides itself on nurturing well-motivated, confident, happy children, by providing a caring pastoral system along with a rounded academic curriculum.

Its core belief is that when children feel happy, they grow in self-esteem and confidence. Every teacher is expected to be a good teacher — no child deserves less.

Every morning the children engage in a Do Now activity. As its name suggests, this is an activity that students do as soon as they enter the classroom. The two main purposes are to settle the class, preparing them for school, and to provide some meaningful thinking and learning for students as quickly as possible.

Research shows that healthier and happier children do better in school, and that education is an important determinant of future health.

But education is not just about lessons within the four walls of a classroom. The outdoor environment encourages skills such as problem-solving and negotiating risk, which are important for child development.

Science
A positive primary science experience is also key to encouraging future generations to not only study this at secondary school, but also potentially to follow it as a career.

Music
Teaching music is an essential part of school life. A child’s IQ increases even after only a few weeks of music lessons. Brain activity increases following musical training, and some parts of the brain even grow larger!
It teaches discipline, concentration and patience. Music supports muscle development and motor skills and it improves social skills.
It helps understand culture, but most of all it brings joy. When children can play music, it makes them happy — and everyone else too.
Children love the chance to learn through being totally hands-on and finding things out for themselves — the perfect way to understand the world around them.

Food
Children of all ages are encouraged to engage and interact at Saville House and lunchtime brings the perfect opportunity. The school passionately fosters a sense of occasion and community, which promotes social skills and table manners.
Fresh food is prepared every day in the onsite kitchen and served in the Dining Hall at 12.30pm. Using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients where possible ensures that food is of the highest possible quality.

School Uniform
Children wear their uniform with pride, promoting equality and a sense of community. The school asks that its dress code is always observed. New and used uniform can be purchased from an onsite shop.
