Flagship equipment for school play area

Leamington Primary and Nursery School, Sutton, has installed new, state-of-the-art playground equipment.

It includes a huge climbing frame called a Crinkle Crags Climber and a Primary Trim Trail, complementing the school’s existing outdoor exercise equipment.

Nine-year-old pupil Jack Ward, one of the first children to use the equipment, said: “It is fun to play on and will make playtime much better.

“I like the trim trail best and think that will be my favourite. I feel lucky that we have this equipment because not every school can afford it, so we are the lucky ones.”

Greg Rossiter, of Pentagon Play, outdoor learning environment specialists who installed the equipment, said: “This is one of the largest open spaces for a school that we have worked on.

“When we first came, it lacked interest for pupils. We knew that to fill the space effectively it needed to be impressive, and so one of the pieces we installed was the large climber — it’s the largest one we do and a flagship piece of equipment. The school also has the biggest trim trail that we do.”

Dan Young, also of Pentagon Play, added: “The space can be used for learning outdoors, using fine and gross motor skills in physical development, and it’s just a wicked all-round piece of kit.”

Acting head Kaye McGuire said: “Children are exploring and using the equipment brilliantly, and helping each other to find different ways of using it. It has had such a great effect on the school’s outdoor space and on children’s playtime too.”
