Stags sign another promotion winner

Mansfield Town manager Adam Murray has strengthened his squad with the signing of experienced midfielder Kevan Hurst.

Hurst won League Two promotion with Southend United, his former club, in 2015.

Murray has now signed three players this summer who have won League Two promotion.

A highly fruitful four-year spell at Roots Hall saw the 30-year-old Hurst make over 150 appearances. In his first season at Southend, he recorded the highest number of assists in League Two.

Starting his career at Sheffield United, he was then bought by Scunthorpe for £200,000 in 2007.

After impressing at Glanford Park, Hurst was subject to a £100,000 move to then League One outfit Carlisle United before signing for Walsall and then Southend.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” said the 30-year-old, after putting pen to paper at One Call Stadium. “The gaffer (Adam Murray) and his staff have a real focus on the task in hand ahead of the new league season.”

On the first two days of pre-season Hurst said: “It’s been very tough physically.

“I’m just looking forward to getting my fitness levels to where they need to be so I can be ready to provide for the team.”
