Samworth students make a difference

Posted onPosted on 24th Jul

For the past four years The Samworth Church Academy in Mansfield has organised a day trip to local areas of special scientific interest, where students have worked on conservation activities.

This year’s MAD (Make a Difference) Day saw all year 7 students go to Garibaldi Woods.

They worked for a day alongside the Forestry Commission, focusing on the removal of Himalayan Balsam, which allows native plants and wildlife to thrive and helps to increase biodiversity.

In 2013, the academy became the first state school in Europe to become members of Round Square, a worldwide network of innovative schools in 40 countries across five continents.

It has provided students some opportunities, such as trips to India, Paris, Istanbul, Singapore, Romania and Germany.

It also allows students to take part in exchange trips with other students from prestigious schools in inspiring locations.

One of the Round Square ideals is to provide service to communities and Samworth’s MAD Day enables students to give something back and make a difference.
