Recycling exploration

Children at Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy (BFHA) visited Oakwood Fuels in the village to learn more about the company, which is the UK’s largest provider of waste collection services to the motor vehicle franchise network.

The company is seen as a beacon in the waste oil industry for its effective and safe management of waste oil products.

The site on Brailwood Road ceased work while the youngsters saw how the company processes and recycles waste products and were also given the opportunity to look at a new, state-of-the-art truck.

Pupil Erin Mather, (10) said: “It was awesome and the driver’s seat is really bouncy to protect the driver from road bumps. There is also a small TV that helps the driver to see all around the lorry to make it safer.”

John MacNamara, managing director of Oakwood Fuels, said: “The children were all interested, intelligent and well mannered; they are a credit to the academy and their families. It was great to be able to explain how a local company recycles garage waste and ultimately protects the environment.”

Academy head Lisa Turland said: “Oakwood Fuels have been supporting the academy and have played a key role in helping us to deliver some successful family events at the school.”
