THE cast of Footloose, which will be staged by the New Youth Theatre in March.
YOUNGSTERS are set to take to the stage later in March when the curtain goes up on their latest production.
Footloose – The Musical is being staged by the New Youth Theatre based in Mansfield.
The group, which says it is passionate about musicals and the performing arts, puts together its shows in one school term.
Rehearsals for Footloose began in January and the show will be staged at Mansfield Palace Theatre on Tuesday, 25th, and Wednesday, 26th March, at 7.30pm.
The New Youth Theatre came to Mansfield in 2007, led by Mr Neil Butler, who at one time led the town’s amateur theatre group Masque Productions. Musical director is Vicky Butler.
The youth theatre teaches children aged three to 17 to develop and improve performing arts skills while rehearsing for a fully-staged musical each term.
Footloose is a classic tale of teen rebellion and repression. When teenager Ren and his family move from big-city Chicago to a small town in the West, he faces a culture shock.
Though he tries to fit in, the streetwise Ren can’t believe he’s living in a place where rock music and dancing are illegal.
With the school prom coming up, Ren decides to challenge the dance and music ban, and revitalise the spirit of the repressed townspeople.
Footloose includes classic 80s anthems such as Holding Out For A Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and the title track, Footloose.
The theatre said: “The cast of more than 60 youngsters aged from five to 17 are eager to perform this lively musical and the audience are guaranteed a night to remember.”
