Santa’s sleigh goes up and sun goes down

FAMILY-OWNED Midlands theme park Sundown Adventureland is lighting for its annual Christmas Spectacular until 24th December.

The park’s iconic ‘Night Before Christmas Ride’ found deep within the park’s 30 acres near Retford will be open every day until Christmas Eve and will take families through the enchanted forest on a sleigh to visit Santa’s Spectacular House, where a special gift will be rewarded to every child.

During Christmas Spectacular Weekends, Sundown Adventureland’s family of elves will be decking the halls of the new Christmas marquee, which will give children the chance to meet the park’s very own Snow Queen, friendly elves and three animatronic Arctic singing reindeers. Children can also watch live entertainment of dancing characters and local entertainers Andy and Lewis.

Gaynor Corr, park director at Sundown Adventureland, said: “I am lucky enough to have first-hand experience of how magical Sundown is during Christmas, as I have lived and worked at the park alongside my family since I was a little girl. The Christmas Spectacular is the perfect way to spark the festive spirit and it brings me great joy to pass on such unforgettable experiences to so many families across the Midlands.”

The Market Place will also be transformed into a winter wonderland with traditional festive lights, non-alcoholic mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. When families have filled up on mushy peas, mince pies and hot soup, they will also be able to peruse the market stalls filled with Christmas decorations, stocking fillers and last-minute gifts.

After the success of last year’s sell-out event, booking is essential as tickets will not be available to buy on the day. Adult tickets for the Christmas Spectacular are £17.25. All tickets for children include a gift from Santa: £20.25 for children over 10 years old, £19.25 for children over 90cm to 10 years old, £3.00 for children under 90cm.

Families can select a certain time slot for the ‘Night Before Christmas Ride’ and Santa visit, but can enter the park at any time from 10am.
