Murder at The Workhouse

There is a different twist on the popular story walk event at The Workhouse, Southwell, in May.

Murder at The Workhouse, who killed the clerk? will be performed by the Workhouse Storytellers at the National Trust property on Friday, 16th and Saturday, 17th May as part of the Museums at Night initiative.

Researched, written and performed by workhouse volunteers, the murder mystery gives visitors the opportunity to follow events surrounding the murder of Mr Henry Quillan, clerk to the workhouse. Scenarios performed by characters will be acted out in different settings around the building and visitors will move from scene to scene piecing together clues.

“Although murder was never actually committed in The Workhouse itself, I found enough evidence of dark and dastardly deeds in the surrounding area to inspire my writing,” said Karen Winyard, author of the play.

“It has been a hard task, constructing enough plot twists and potential suspects with the means, motive and opportunity to keep everyone guessing who had done it.”

Those unable to be in the audience on the night will be able to attempt to solve the crime for themselves as clues will be sent out on Twitter @workhousevoices in the weeks running up to the performance.

Tickets for Murder at The Workhouse are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children, suitable for over 12s. Booking and pre-payment is essential. The event runs from 6.30-8.30pm.
