Mansfield Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society is following on from the success of last year’s performances of Oklahoma by venturing into new territory in 2023.
The society, which last year raised more than £1,000 for the Disaster Emergency Committee and its work helping the people of Ukraine, is putting on 9 To 5 The Musical in February.
With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and from the book by Patricia Resnick, 9 To 5 The Musical is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie.
Set in the late 1970s the hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic.
Pushed to boiling point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss.
In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy, giving their boss, Hart, the boot.
While Hart remains otherwise engaged, the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
But will their plans unravel when the chief executive pays an unexpected visit?
Among the cast are Carolyn Frith (Violet Newstead), Amy Shaw (Judy Bernly), Helen Mumby (Doralee Rhodes), Sean Curtis (Franklin Hart), Jo Dewberry (Roz Keith), Jamie Savage (Joe), JJ Gill (Dwayne Rhodes) and Matthew Bird (Dick Bernly).
9 To 5 The Musical will run from Wednesday 15th to Sunday, 19th February. For tickets call 01623 633133, go to mansfieldpalace.co.uk or to the box office on Leeming Street.
