Have a healthy half term in Mansfield

Posted onPosted on 9th Feb

Help is at hand for families facing the February half term during the third national coronavirus lockdown with a new Healthy Holidays scheme to be broadcast online.

Mansfield District Council is planning to stream health and wellbeing activities via its Facebook page from Tuesday 16 to Friday 19 February, including tai chi and mindfulness sessions, family yoga, and cookery videos.

The Healthy Holidays Programme is a pilot project that will initially focus on two of the council’s priority neighbourhoods, Bellamy Road and Oak Tree Lane estates, with a view to rolling out the scheme to other parts of the district in the future.

Parents of children who attend St Peter’s Primary School and Oak Tree Lane Primary School are being encouraged to sign up for 100 free half-term packs to be shared out with food, recipes, activities and crafts for families so they can join in with the online events.

The rest of the district can also take part by staying tuned to the council’s Facebook page @MyMansfieldUK.

Coun Marion Bradshaw, portfolio holder for safer communities, housing and wellbeing, said: “There will be something suitable for all ages so be sure to tune in online.

“The winter half term can be hard at the best of times for families but when very little is open, it makes it even harder to keep children entertained all day.

“We hope this will help all those parents who might be struggling to be ‘family entertainment managers’ and encourage both parents and children to discover new ways to be active and to give their health and wellbeing a boost during this difficult time.”

The Healthy Holidays Programme is being funding by Nottinghamshire County Council Emergency Assistance Fund and is being delivered by the council in collaboration with Mansfield Museum, Mansfield Palace Theatre and Your Health Your Way, a new Nottinghamshire County Council wellbeing service that aims to encourage more people to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
