Carnivals, brass bands, family fun days, festivals, and more this summer

Posted onPosted on 2nd May

Mansfield Carnival returns in June as the area gets set for a summer of family fun events.

The cultural celebration, back for a third year, is themed on One World — global unity and the power of coming together as one community, as well as promoting environmental sustainability.

From vibrant parades, live music, and entertainment on stage to eco-conscious choices, the carnival will celebrate both cultural diversity and a shared responsibility for the planet with colour and laughter, from 12noon to 6pm on Saturday, 21st June.

Based on Leeming Street, the fun will begin at 12noon with a parade, a colourful spectacle of music, dance, and traditional costumes marching through the streets.

Visitors will experience the vibrancy of Caribbean carnival costumes, rhythmic drummers, and energetic dancers as the parade makes its way around the town.

It will be followed by a street party on Leeming Street, which will be closed to traffic. Look out for food, live music, and plenty of carnival energy.

Throughout the afternoon there will be live music on the One World Main Stage, while Mansfield Museum is hosting an acoustic stage.

Titchfield Park is hosting Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, being performed by OddSocks Theatre on Sunday, 13th July.

On Saturday, 16th August, the council will be organising a Picnic and Play event in Chesterfield Road Park, including face painting, arts and crafts, walkabout entertainers, and entertainment for all ages.

Looking further ahead, a main Destination Mansfield event will be a Fire Garden in Titchfield Park on 25th and 26th October, as displays highlight the power of fire.

David Evans, assistant director for Health, Communities and Insight at Mansfield District Council, said: “The council is committed to bringing culture to our communities and building our sense of place.

“We are pleased to invest income generated from other events to fund aspects of our summer programme for 2025.

“Brass bands and family festivals are a firm favourite in Mansfield, and we hope people will venture into our parks and open spaces to enjoy a summer day out in Mansfield.

“The culture programme, funded by the Arts Council and Towns Fund, continues to provide opportunities for local people to get involved in high-quality experiences on their doorstep.”
