Support for Sutton food bank

Posted onPosted on 20th Nov

Ashfield District Council has committed a further £3,000 to support the Let’s All Eat Foodbank based in Sutton.

Following a recent surge in demand, more than 120 families across Sutton are now supported by the foodbank each week. The additional funding allows them to buy extra food and covers the fuel costs of delivering food packages across the town.

This additional funding is on top of the £15,000 of funding already provided to foodbanks across the district during the pandemic.

Coun Samantha Deakin said: “In the run up to Christmas it is expected that the number of families needing help will increase. This is going to be a difficult time of year for many and we want to ensure that the foodbank is able to provide to all those that need it.

“I also want to take this opportunity to thank the foodbanks across the District for their tremendous efforts this year. They are delivering a much needed service in our local communities in really difficult times.”

Feel Good Food, a local sub group to the Ashfield Health and Wellbeing partnership, has been working alongside Ashfield District Council with the Take a Tin campaign. The campaign encourages local residents, schools and workplaces to donate tinned goods to local foodbanks.

A large number of community groups and organisations have organised collections, including Paragon Customer Communications, Your Health Your Way, Van Elle, Idlewells Shopping Centre, Lee Glass and Glazing, Beaufort Utd Under 9s FC, Leamington Primary Academy and staff at Ashfield District Council.

Coun Deakin added: “We would like to thank everyone that has got involved in the Take a Tin campaign so far, if your workplace or school would like to get involved please do get in touch.

“This is a fantastic way to support the members of our community most in need this Christmas.”
