Summer fun for all in Mansfield

Summer fun for all in Mansfield

Town centre street entertainment, a fun fair, a free family festival and a dog show are just some of the events to be found in Mansfield during the school summer holidays.

On Saturday, 31 July, Covent Garden walkabout entertainer, Bridie the Tea Lady, is in Mansfield town centre. The 8ft tall dancing tea lady is performing with music and humour at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm in the Market Place, West Gate and Stockwell Gate.

And while in town, visitors can also collect a free packet of wildflower seeds from traders on Mansfield Market and have a go at Mansfield District Council’s Bee Kind Trail.

To take part, follow a trail of wildflower planters around town and make a note of the seven letters printed on them. Spell out the phrase and email it to [email protected] by 31 August. You could win a £30, £20 or £10 voucher to spend on the market. Find out more by visiting www.mansfield.gov.uk/events.

The council’s Yeoman Hill Park and Titchfield Park will host Xplorer sessions, which are a free navigation challenge to explore the park and something the whole family can enjoy together.

For indoor activities, families can book a free session at Mansfield Museum, with crazy golf, interactive exhibits, and plenty of creative activities to keep children occupied. They are running each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am and 1pm with quieter, relaxed sessions on Wednesdays. Book online at www.mansfieldpalace.co.uk.

The Pirate Pool at Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex has now reopened and there are also holiday activity clubs operating at other council leisure centres in the district. See www.mansfieldleisure.com and click on the individual leisure centres to find out more.

Meanwhile, at the Four Seasons Shopping Centre the BClub will be running a series of weekly free children’s holiday activities in August.

The council’s parks will play host to various events, including a travelling fun fair in Fisher Lane Park from Thursday, 5 August to Sunday, 8 August and charity dog show on Saturday, 21 August in Racecourse Park.

Wonderfest, the council’s flagship summer family festival event featuring a performance of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, in Titchfield Park on Thursday 26 August has now allocated all its free tickets. There may be a chance to win a couple more in a competition being planned to mark Nottinghamshire Day on Wednesday, 25 August. Details will be posted to the council’s Facebook page.

Executive Mayor Andy Abrahams said: “It is great to see Mansfield opening up again to events this summer. There is no shortage of things for families to do over the school holidays and many of these activities are completely free.

“We hope parents will take the opportunity to get out with their children and experience the wide range of entertainment available on their doorsteps.”

Check out the What’s On section of the council website at www.mansfield.gov.uk/events to find out more or to submit details of an event in the district.
