Mansfield Senior Reds walking footballers were triumphant at the Italian Masters Trophy in Peschiera Del Garda, Lake Garda, Italy.

The tournament featured teams from Italy, Scotland and England.

Mansfield Reds had two teams in the over-65s group and one in the over-50s.

After two days of competition over a league basis, Mansfield Senior Reds Over-65 emerged victorious, winning six and drawing two matches, without conceding a goal.

They scored 19 goals — Steve Birkin 6 (2 penalties), Steve Haynes 5, Geoff West 5 and Andy Kowalski 3.

Mansfield Senior Whites Over-65s came third. Tom McAlinden netted six goals, including three penalties, and Jez Healy also scored.

In the over-50s, Mansfield Reds were fourth in the plate competition. Darron Hall scored 10 goals with a ‘golden boot’ contribution and Steve Ward and Steve Elliott one each.

A spokesman said: “It was a great achievement to go through the entire competition without conceding a goal and was an endorsement of the veteran team’s commitment and teamwork.”
