Students spread festive cheer

Posted onPosted on 17th Dec

Students at a Shirebrook school spread some early Christmas cheer when they held their annual carol concert in the town centre.

Shirebrook Academy’s wind band ran through a list of festive favourites, including Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and Little Donkey, entertaining a crowd that gathered in the Market Place on Friday.

The concert has become a yearly tradition and followed the school’s own carol concert, which took place in the Academy’s atrium two days before.

Students from the wind band also read out excerpts from Clement Clarke Moore’s poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, which tells the tale of a magical visit from Father Christmas.

Mark Cottingham, principal of Shirebrook Academy, said: “This is a very busy time of year for our wind band but they gave a wonderful performance in the Market Place and it was another very successful event.

“Our Year Seven students were joined by pupils from Model Village and Brookfield Primary Schools, so there was a really nice atmosphere and got everyone into the spirit of Christmas.”
