Students extend equality and diversity knowledge

Posted onPosted on 14th Dec

Barnsley College students at the Mansfield Education Hub continued to learn about equality and diversity as part of their Foundation Learning study programme by taking part in a range of lessons linking to the theme.

They went on an educational trip to Sheffield Christmas Market, travelling by train before experiencing a range of foods from different cultures.

The students worked as a team to design and develop equality and diversity-themed products, including Christmas wreaths to represent flags from around the world and LGBTQ+ ‘Pride Rudolph’ hot chocolate and marshmallow cones. The products were sold at Mansfield Christmas Market.

As part of festive celebrations at the hub, students enjoyed a Christmas meal and attended the Mansfield Palace Theatre pantomime, Sleeping Beauty.

Karen McCartney, Foundation Learning teacher, said: “It was fantastic to see students travel to a different city and experience new things at Sheffield Christmas Market. It was a pleasure to see them represent Barnsley College and Mansfield Education Hub in a positive way. They were a credit to the college.”

Mansfield Education Hub is part of Barnsley College and the project-based Foundation Learning course offered at the hub sees students take part in ongoing practical projects throughout the academic year, which feed into their qualification. There are courses available throughout the year and young people are able to apply and enrol now.
