Will it be game, set and match in July when Mansfield Lawn Tennis Club holds its second Open Day event of the year?
Members are ready to welcome young and old alike to the club’s Pheasant Hill site on Saturday, 5th July, from 1pm to 4pm.
A spokesperson said: “It is all about having fun. We’ll provide racquets and tennis balls, so anyone can come along and play — or bring your own if you prefer.”
There will also be a chance to try pickleball, one of the new racquet sports that is proving popular in the UK.
As well as organised tennis sessions with the club’s coaching team, visitors can play for free on five hard courts and two grass courts.
Refreshments will be on sale and there will be special deals on membership packages for those who sign up on the day.
The club’s Helen Riby said: “If our May event is anything to go by it will be a fun day out for all the family.
“We had 50 people attend in May, despite it clashing with the FA Cup final.
“There was a good mixture of juniors and adults, who all enjoyed wonderful sunny weather. We even had a few people sign up on the day!
“Our July event takes place on the middle Saturday of Wimbledon so, weather permitting, we are expecting even more people as, fingers-crossed, the nation celebrates some amazing Wimbledon wins by our British tennis stars.”
People can turn up on the day or book in advance at www.mansfieldtennis.co.uk/EventsV2
Coaching sessions will include:
Under-8 Mini Tennis — using soft balls and smaller courts;
9-17 Junior Tennis — for young people, whether they are new to the club or a regular.
Teens and Adult Tennis — Taster session, ideal for people new to the sport or who haven’t picked up a racquet in a long time.
Pickleball — Give the new sport a try, members and non-members welcome, supervised sessions running all afternoon.
Free Play — If you don’t fancy a coaching session, just try out the club’s facilities.
The Open Day event is part of the national LTA/Barclay’s Big Tennis Weekend, which is taking place all over the country and aims to encourage thousands of people to head to their local tennis clubs for free.
