The Armchair Club and Mansfield Building Society have combined to support local sport — this time backing the development of players at Langwith Cricket Club.
The Armchair Club — a group of businesspeople who help sports clubs and individuals across Mansfield and Ashfield — and Mansfield Building Society jointly funded a £500 grant.
Langwith CC, one of the oldest clubs in the country, has reintroduced a junior programme over the last four years.
More than 20 youngsters attend each week in two age groups and last season two juniors represented the senior team in a fixture at Wiseton.
The club have always run its sessions for free, which has helped to foster a good spirit, and asked the Armchair Club for support in providing the necessary kit and small projects around the club.
A spokesperson for the club said helping the progression of juniors into its senior team and the next wave of young players looking to play more hardball games as a junior team was important.
They added: “The money will ensure that the kit connects everyone at the club and visually shows the pathway from introductions to cricket right the way through to senior games, maintaining the progress of the club on and off the pitch this year.”
