A community sports project that is coming to Sutton later in the summer is under way.

Nottinghamshire Police’s partnership with Nottingham Forest Community Trust will provide football and social distancing activities in outdoor spaces every Friday for next eight weeks.

The force’s Citizens in Policing Youth Outreach Worker Romel Davis said: “The aim of the project is to get local kids involved in positive activities in their local community as (coronavirus) restrictions ease. It also gives the police the opportunity to continues to engage with vulnerable children and young people.”

The activities included foot golf, foot tennis, fitness and multisport activities.

Premier League Projects manager Declan Barker said: “It has been fantastic to work strategically with Nottinghamshire Police to deliver Covid-safe sessions to engage young people. We are excited to continue to drive participation throughout the summer.”

Director of Helping Kids Achieve youth group and also the current BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero Award winner, Keiren Thompson, also supported the opening session in Nottingham. He said: ““It was great to interact and engage with young people through sports as it is much needed in a time where youth clubs are closed.

“It has given them an opportunity to take their mind of things that are happening around them.”

The next session in the Premier League Kicks Roadshow is this Friday (10th July) at Clifton Playing Fields, Clifton.

The roadshow will also be visiting Balderton Playing Fields, Newark; and Sutton Lawn Recreation Ground, Sutton in Ashfield, in the coming weeks.

All social distancing and government guidelines were followed throughout.
