SmellTaste, a UK charity dedicated to supporting people living with smell and taste impairments, is to host a second peer support meet-up in Mansfield.
The event, which is again being organised by local volunteer Keith Barnes, will take place on Tuesday, 29th July, at the Create Theatre, West Nottinghamshire College, Mansfield, at 10.30am. It follows the success of the first Mansfield meet-up in February, which brought together people keen to share their experiences, offer support, and learn more about the work of SmellTaste.
Keith, who is leading the Mansfield SmellTaste Action Group, said: “At the meeting we’ll share our experiences of living with smell and taste impairment, and hear updates from SmellTaste about its activities and the latest research.
“It’s always helpful to talk with others and realise we’re not alone. I’m really looking forward to meeting others in July with smell and taste loss like me.”
The meeting, which is free to attend, is open to anyone affected by smell or taste impairment, and a family member or friend.
SmellTaste, formerly called Fifth Sense, is a UK charity for everyone living with smell and taste disorders.
It provides vital support, information, and advocacy to those affected; works with health professionals to improve understanding and care; and funds research to accelerate the development of treatments.
Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, SmellTaste has launched a series of local action groups across the UK — with Mansfield among the first towns to establish one.
Sally Connick, community development officer at the charity, said: “These volunteer-led groups aim to raise awareness, offer community-based support, and build a network of individuals committed to transforming the lives of people affected by smell and taste loss.”
