Schools minister tours Sutton academy with MP

Posted onPosted on 4th May

Ashfield MP Lee Anderson joined Nick Gibb, minister of state for Schools Standards, on a tour of Sutton Community Academy.

The Sutton is unusual in its design, being situated directly in a town centre. Built in the 1970s and not typical of a secondary school, the minister noted that the community academy has a lot to offer — new science laboratories, and a theatre being just some of the impressive features.

Also present was academy principle Pat Butterell. who spoke about the challenges at the school and his determination to make sure no child was left behind.

The visitors saw the learning facilities on offer at the academy and spoke to some of the students.

The minister particularly enjoyed a Year 7 English lesson he joined.

Lee Anderson said: “It’s always a pleasure to visit schools and I’m really impressed with the values of the school.

“The new principle believes that every child matters and he’s determined that everyone gets a first-class education.

“The students all looked smart in their uniform and seemed to enjoy being back in school.

“I am looking forward to working with Mr Butterell and seeing how the school transforms.”
