School’s mental health award success

Posted onPosted on 5th Feb

The Flying High Academy in Mansfield has been awarded the Carnegie Centre of Excellence Mental Health in Schools Silver Award.

Wendy Soar, SENCO and mental health lead at the school, said: “It feels fantastic to be recognised for the good practice we have in place relating to mental health and wellbeing at the school.”

She said the school was now aiming for the Gold Award. “My team will now expand the provision to include the wider community and other schools in the locality.

“We have always pursued training to support the whole child and have been recognised by Ofsted for meeting the needs of each and every child in our care. It is great that Government initiatives are now mirroring our ethos and that schools are earning awards for it.”

Rita Wright, teaching assistant and pastoral lead, said the school had worked hard to create the best environment for children.
“Achieving the Silver Award has confirmed that all of the policies, procedures and support systems in place at the Flying High Academy, put children first.”

Teacher Catherine Beaumont said the award was testament to the families at the school who were supportive of their efforts.

“The children and families who are part of our school community deserve this award as recognition for the trust and commitment that they have in our pastoral team,” she said.
