Rough sleeping on decline in Mansfield

Posted onPosted on 26th Feb

Mansfield MP Ben Bradley has welomed news that the number of people sleeping rough has fallen for the third year in a row.

According to annual statistics for 2020 that have been published this week, the numbers have fallen by 37% to 2,688 across England. In Mansfield, it is estimated that the number of people sleeping rough has decreased by 68% since last year.

Ben said: “Fantastic news that we are succeeding in supporting rough sleepers by taking them off the streets permanently. Whilst there is still a lot more work to do, we are taking steps in the right direction if we are to succeed in eradicating homelessness altogether.

“This has been one of Government’s key aims since 2017, but additional measures and support during the pandemic saw record numbers of rough sleepers being taken from the streets and settled into longer-term accommodation through the Everyone In initiative. I am confident that we will build on this progress and I welcome the £750 million funding that will help us to ensure nobody has to spend a night on the streets.

“Rough sleeping has fallen by 43% since the Prime Minister took office in 2019, which shows how committed he is in ensuring this Government ends rough sleeping for good. I often receive emails from constituents who are particularly concerned about rough sleepers, so I am sure this positive news will be welcomed across Mansfield and Warsop.”
