Purpose Media warm up for Play on Pitch day

Posted onPosted on 20th May

Staff at full-service marketing agency Purpose Media are warming up for their annual “Play on the Pitch’ tournament, which is taking place at the New York Stadium, home to Rotherham United FC.

The event, which has been held in previous years at Derby County FC, is held to support the development of grass roots football.

This year, an all-star team from South Normanton-based Purpose Media, will be taking on a team from Sleetmoor United, made up of coaching staff and the fathers of girls and boys who play for the club.

Taking place on Sunday, 26th May, there will be a full day of tournament style games for all age groups, with the ‘Dads&Coaches’ versus “Team Purpose Media” game the main event.

Sleetmoor United football club, founded in 2016, brought together three teams – ADASC FC, GFC Alfreton Girls and Ladies and Leabrooks Juniors Football Club – to form a single club with a united vision.

Since then, Sleetmoor United has touched the lives of thousands of families across Derbyshire, providing opportunities to participate in grass-roots sport, learn crucial life skills, make friends and have fun.

Purpose Media managing director Matt Wheatcroft has been heavily involved in amalgamating the clubs and creating the new vision. Both of his daughters lay football and he has also been coaching girls teams. Purpose Media also created the new branding as part of their CSR strategy and commitment to support their local community.

Matt said: “This day is a vital fund raiser for Sleetmoor United which we hope will contribute towards funding a new 4G pitch. Business plans are also being prepared which will be submitted for Football Foundation funding which will hopefully see a grander scale vision come to fruition.

“If the Football Foundation grant is successful, the intention is to build brand new changing facilities, a community hall and other spaces that be used commercially.”

Spectators are more than welcome to attend. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for children. Gates open for the children’s games at 9am, while kick off the adults’ game is scheduled for 2pm.
