Parkinson’s UK has launched its largest-ever fundraiser, the Nurse Appeal. The ambitious appeal is aiming to raise £9m to fund Parkinson’s nurses and other specialists, and every penny raised from the charity’s Walk for Parkinson’s fundraising series – including one in Thoresby Park – will go towards it.
Parkinson’s specialists are a lifeline for the 153,000 people in the UK living with Parkinson’s, but currently over 30,000 people with the condition lack access to them. The nationwide shortage in specialists plus a lack of understanding of Parkinson’s among other health and care professionals means that around 1 in 5 people with the condition are missing out on the expert care they desperately need.
Parkinson’s UK is calling on people across the UK to sign up to its national community fundraising series, Walk for Parkinson’s 2025 to help fund the Nurse Appeal.
There are 15 walks for all ages and abilities taking place across the country between June and September, including at Thoresby Park on 5th July.
Each event offers a range of distances to suit everyone, including shorter, family-friendly routes that are fully accessible, and longer routes for those wanting to go that extra mile or two.
For anyone unable to attend an event, there are also the options to take part in Parkinson’s UK’s virtual 100-Mile Challenge in May or organise their own walk.
It costs £12 to sign up to Walk for Parkinson’s (under 18s go free) and the suggested sponsorship target per person is £100. All walkers will receive a fundraising pack with tips and advice, sponsorship forms and an exclusive Walk for Parkinson’s T-shirt to wear on the day.
