Palace Theatre’s Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs is a laugh-a-minute winner

As the proud grandparent of an almost two-year-old, I was well prepared to join in with all the actions to the Baby Shark Dance at this year’s brilliant panto at the Palace Theatre, Mansfield.

The internet sensation has gone down a storm in our house for the past few months as we constantly sing out ‘Baby Shark doo doo doo doo doo doo’ – and it was great for mummy, daddy, grandma and grandpa shark to be able to relive it with the energetic cast of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs.

But the audience participation, as you might expect, did not start or end with the Shark dance and song… oh no it didn’t!

There was so much for all the family to enjoy and join in as one of the most popular panto stories was given a Mansfield twist.

And my favourite part was the high-energy 12 Days Of Christmas as the Palace’s favourite festive comedian, Adam Moss, ran riot – and not just on the stage – creating mayhem, laughter and general silliness.

SPOILER ALERT

The festive song was brought to life as the audience quickly played their part in the chaos and madness, chasing toilet rolls as the madcap comic tried to rescue them from the auditorium on more than one occasion.

I haven’t laughed so much for a long time. But the madcap comedian got his revenge with a super-soaker on the twelfth day of Christmas!

Adam, starring on the stage where he proposed to his now wife two years ago, took the part of Muddles and fired off his usual quickfire repartee of jokes to lead the fun and games – and was well supported by a terrific cast.

Andrew Geater played the charming Prince, who wins his bride in a fairytale ending. The role was more developed than in many adaptations of the famous story and Andrew proved to be a strong foil to Muddles – particularly in that 12 Days Of Christmas mayhem.

The seven dwarfs also stole the show, with some lovely scenes as their cottage was revealed. They also got their own back for a series of jokes about their height.

Sue Holderness – best known as Marlene in TV’s Only Fools And Horses – brought her experience to create a Wicked Queen with a dramatic entrance, and really shone while casting a spell in her cauldron.

Charlie Burden is the dame, Nurse Dolly, full of outlandish costumes and adding a different final twist to the traditional ghost scene, while Naomi Gisbey is perfect as the sweet and innocent Snow White.

Music is always a highlight at a Christmas panto and this production did not let you down.

Dancers, young and old, captivated the audience – particularly when dressed as animals in the wood – and the musical number Down The Mine was all action and memorable.

Tickets are selling fast for the panto, with fewer than 10% remaining, and once again it does not disappoint.

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs continues its run until 6th January. Call 01623 633133, call in at the Box Office or go to https://www.mansfieldpalace.co.uk to get one of the few tickets remaining.
