On the run in memory of Sir Captain Tom Moore

Posted onPosted on 22nd Feb

A PE teacher has launched a running challenge for February inspired by national hero Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Oli Tatterson, known as Mr T by pupils at Leamington Primary and Nursery Academy, Sutton, wants to mark the death of Captain Sir Tom Moore on 2nd February, aged 100.

Oli set himself the challenge of running 100 miles in the month to reflect a mile for each year of Captain Tom’s life.

Money raised during the challenge will be split 50/50 between Captain Tom’s Foundation and raising money for a new school minibus.
Oli said many other staff members and pupils are joining the challenge.

“Captain Tom has been such an inspiration to our whole school community and continues to inspire us still,” he said.

“We hope that the children, staff and the school community can get behind our challenge and we are seeing some very determined efforts to reach our goals.”

Oli said not everyone was expected to complete the 100 miles, and children came up with other ways of honouring the challenge.

He added: “One of our pupils pledged to achieve 100,000 steps a week during the month.

“The spirit and determination of our school community means that I am sure we will succeed and hopefully, in a small way, honour the inspiring kindness and determination of Captain Tom.”
