MP quizzed by young pupils

Posted onPosted on 13th May

Mansfield MP Coun Ben Bradley visited Farmilo Primary School, Pleasley, to answer students’ questions on a wide range of subjects and provide tips on how to deliver a speech.

Ben also visited year 3 and 4 classes to see the pupils’ work on their latest topic, Urban Pioneers.

The topic involves the students evaluating their local area and considering how they might improve it in the future.

They were also asked to create and deliver a ‘manifesto’ speech on their plans.

Youngsters asked about the MP’s plans to improve the area, such as new educational facilities in Pleasley and combatting graffiti.

Ben also provided an insight on what life is like as an MP and advice on how to persuade people of your ideas. This included tips on combatting any pre-speech nerves and what it is like to work in Parliament with the Prime Minister.

“It was a pleasure to speak to the children at Farmilo about their ideas for improving Mansfield and Pleasley,” he said.

“I also enjoyed speaking to students about my role in that improvement, through securing funding and investment for regeneration in our community.

“Their enthusiasm for the project shone through during my visit. In particular, it was amazing to see the engagement that has taken place with local residents and the wider community as part of this project.”

“They were going on to give speeches to tryg to convince their classmates of their arguments and priorities.”
