Market magic for Mansfield festive shoppers

Posted onPosted on 20th Nov

The Christmas Lights Switch-On event in Mansfield also marked the start of the Mansfield BID-organised festive market, in West Gate.

Now open daily from 10am to 5pm until 22nd December, the I Love Mansfield Christmas Market offers a range of items to buy, from festive wreaths and ornaments, to decorations, books, and homeware items. There is also a food and drink court.

Mansfield BID has organised and funded the market, with an additional £10,000 of support from the National Lottery.

Nikki Rolls, chief executive of Mansfield BID, said: “The lights switch-on was fabulous for the town centre, despite bad weather. By the end of the evening, there was a great turnout and the community spirit was high with everyone enjoying all the festive cheer and activities.

“The lights switch-on marks the start of Christmas in Mansfield, and the market adds to the festive feel.

“The Christmas market was a concept brought to the BID by the businesses as an idea to increase footfall and awareness of the town centre. It has grown over the years, and this year, its third year, sees it take place for longer than ever before.

“What’s great about the market is that it attracts more people to come into town and stay longer, benefiting retailers and pubs, cafes and restaurants.

“All in all, it’s a great example of everyone coming together to make Mansfield great.”

Nikki added: “The BID is now in its 10th year and continues to evolve to meet the needs of the 500 businesses it represents.

“Next year will see the start of more change with the potential pot of £50m of funding for the town centre as well as two new hotels. Visitors from far and wide will be able to come to Mansfield, participate in all that the town offers during both day and night, and stay for the night.

“We love Mansfield and we want everybody to feel this way to regardless of whether they are a local or a visitor.”
