Mansfield’s Heroes charity hits £10,000 donation mark

Mansfield Heroes Memorial Fund, which raises funds to support ex-Servicemen and women and maintain its memorial in the town, has received £10,000 from its partner, Savanna Rags International.

The charity was launched in 2009 to establish and maintain the memorial on Carr Bank Park that recognises Service members from the district who have fallen since the end of the second world war.

It has been working with Savanna Rags International since March 2012 and has seven recycled clothing collection banks at Mansfield Civic Centre, Water Meadows Leisure Centre, Oak Tree Leisure Centre, Mansfield Train Station car park and the Sir John Cockle, Speed the Plough (Sutton) and The Sunnydale (Woodhouse) pubs.

Graham Parker (pictured right), chairman of the memorial fund, said: “We have been able to use the £10,000 and other funds to help a variety of local ex-Servicemen and women by directly improving their lives through our partners, to whom we make donations. We could not have done that without the support of people putting clothing in our banks and we’d like to thank everyone who has donated. We are also on the lookout for other sites for banks.”

Martin Kinsella, from Savanna Rags, said the company was keen to work with other charities.
Anyone wanting to arrange for a collection of a large amount of clothing should contact Graham Parker on 01543 500420.
