Leisure centres to remain open under Tier Three guidelines

Mansfield District Leisure Trust (MDLT), which runs a number of centres in the region has confirmed its facilities will remain open in line with government guidelines linked to the recent Tier Three announcement.

It said MDLT’s Oak Tree facility will continue to offer group exercise sessions, using its spacious, well ventilated sports hall to ensure sessions are run in a COVID-secure way.

Rebecca Adlington, Oak Tree and Water Meadows opening hours all remain the same. All sessions currently on offer are still running, including the use of the gyms at all sites, also swimming sessions and lessons at RASC and Water Meadows.

Contract manager for MDLT Andrew Smith said: “We’re very pleased the government has decided that leisure centres and gyms can remain open in Tier Three regions. Sport and regular activity are so important right now, giving people a chance to stay active and boost their immune systems during this very challenging period.

“Our sites are all COVID-secure. We will continue offering safe exercise spaces, never compromising on the wellbeing of our customers or employees. We run group exercise classes at only one of our facilities, Oak Tree Leisure Centre.

“These sessions were placed in the sports-hall when we reopened in July. The size of the hall and the fact that it is so well-ventilated means this is the ideal location for our very popular group exercise programme. These sessions are a great way to stay healthy, giving people a good workout and a chance to stay social at a time when interaction with others, even in a socially distanced way, is so important to customers.

“To attend a centre, people will need to pre-book, either online, or via our More Fitness app. Customers will also be able to book over the phone, but we would recommend, where possible, they go down the digital route. Our websites all have clear, thorough guidelines, explaining exactly what customers and colleagues can expect when they attend their centre.”

“We understand this is a difficult for some, however we appreciate your understanding while we follow the latest guidelines. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.”

Along with managing agent, Serco Leisure, MDLT operates four centres across the region on behalf of Mansfield District Council. Three of its facilities, Oak Tree Leisure Centre, Water Meadows Fitness and Swimming Complex, and the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre are currently open. River Main Recreation Centre remains closed due to government guidelines around social distancing and air ventilation.
