Leisure centre partners with charity

An ice rink is celebrating a new partnership with an ice skating charity that provides inclusive skating opportunities for children.

Lammas Leisure Centre, Sutton, which is operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Ashfield District Council, has been recognised as an official partner of Inclusive Skating — a charity formed to create a new competition and event system for impaired skaters.

Paul Blakemore, general manager at Lammas, said: “We’re honoured to be selected by Inclusive Skating as its official partner.

“We admire the work it does to offer children of all abilities the chance to shine on the ice and reach their potential on their skating journey.”

Inclusive Skating helps skaters learn skills on the ice with their families and carers in a supportive environment.

Coun Tom Hollis, deputy leader of Ashfield District Council, said: “The charity do some fantastic work to make physical exercise as accessible as possible. This is exactly what we want to achieve for young people as an authority in Ashfield.”

Professional ice coach Louisa Chatwin, who was Team GB’s Head Coach at the 2017 Special Winter Olympics, coaches students at the centre. And Lammas Leisure Centre’s Learn to Skate programme and one-to-one sessions have supported several local skater, including world figure and fancy skating champion Meg McFarlane, and British Inclusive Championship gold medallist Callum Mills.
