Kingfisher Court Care Home residents keeping busy

Posted onPosted on 3rd Apr

Kingfisher Court Care Home in Sutton has been determined that the coronavirus will not stand in the way of residents’ activities and well-being.

While families are unable to visit, the home said it wanted them to know it is doing its best to ensure they can keep in contact.

Residents are using social media and video calling to help keep this up.

Recent activities included celebrating St Patrick’s Day with music and a film — together with a drink and four-leaf clover biscuits.

Some residents have been sowing sunflower seeds ready to go in the garden in late spring, whilst also enjoying walks around the garden on sunny days.

As part of the run up to Mother’s Day, residents enjoyed a pamper session with foot spas, face masks, manicures and pedicures all topped off with a glass of wine or a drink of their choice.

Linda Harrison, lifestyle manager at Kingfisher Court, with the help of all the care staff, arranged for residents to write notes to their loved ones.

One resident put: ‘I would like you to know I am ok and missing you, and hope to see you soon’.

Another wrote: ‘To all my friends, see you soon’.

These were posted on to Kingfisher’s Facebook page for their families to see, to comfort them at this worrying time.

Sheila, a resident at Kingfisher, had a letter printed in The Times, which she wrote encouraging people who maybe have no email or social media to return to letter writing.

Sheila wrote: ‘It could be a chance to give family or friends a fillip when they see familiar handwriting on an envelope arrive on the mat’.

She thought it would be great to treasure the letters for future generations to look back on.

In preparation for Easter residents have been making Easter bonnets. There will be a competition for the best one with Easter eggs to be won along with other prizes.

There will also be an Easter quiz, guess the weight and much more.

Staff and residents at Kingfisher have also said thank you to the NHS, carers and keyworkers who are all doing an amazing job.

On 26th March at 8pm some of the staff and residents showed their appreciation by going outside on the balconies to clap together with thousands of people across the area.

Kingfisher is available to take new residents during this time of uncertainty. For more information contact Tracy Hickman on 01623 440325.
