Helping charity at home and overseas

The immediate past president of Mansfield Inner Wheel, Kam Britland, has presented cheques for £1,214.41 to her chosen charities during her year in office — Mercy Malaysia UK (MMUK) and MIND Nottinghamshire.

Ranjit Kent (also pictured above, left), a trustee of MMUK, gave Inner Wheel members a brief resume of her visit to Mandalay to see the work being performed on cleft palates in children and older patients.

She said they have basic equipment, few staff and no facilities for recovery or painkillers.

The money raised by the Inner Wheel club will buy equipment and medicine, including milk as many of the patients are malnourished.

Dale Jubbie, a fundraiser and promotion leader for MIND Nottinghamshire, attended the June meeting.

The money will be used to support projects in the local area and he expressed the gratitude of the charity, which supports patients with mental health problems in the area.
