Guiding volunteers are saluted

Posted onPosted on 15th Oct

A Mansfield Guide was among three young leaders who accepted the Lord-Lieutenant’s Award for Promoting Voluntary Service on behalf of the 9,000 members of Girlguiding Nottinghamshire.

Hannah (18), who is Leader in Training with 19th Mansfield Brownies, and Grace (17), of 1st Carlton Guides and Brownies, and Leah (14), of 2nd Worksop Priory Guides, were presented with the award by Deputy Lieutenant Robin Wilson in front of 500 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers — plus adult volunteers — who had gathered to create a giant choir in a day at the Albert Hall, Nottingham.

The achievements of individuals, units and divisions were also celebrated, as was the lasting legacy of Girlguiding membership in terms of building resilience, transferrable skills, friendships and confidence amongst girls and young women across the county.

“Those of us involved see for ourselves every day the impact we have on our members and on the wider community,” said Girlguiding Nottinghamshire’s County Commissioner Jackie Brocklehurst.

“But this doesn’t happen without a huge amount of hard work, dedication and enthusiasm from our volunteers and I the office of the Lord-Lieutenancy for paying tribute to this so publicly.”
