Granny Square Christmas Tree to be officially unveiled

Posted onPosted on 19th Oct

An Edwinstowe business owner has happily revealed that her Christmas knitting and crocheting project in honour of grandmothers has been successfully completed.

Ursula Urbansdotter, who runs the Woolshop and Knitting studio (Unit 12) in the Sherwood Forest Art and Craft Centre, Edwinstowe, called her initiative the Granny Square Christmas Tree Project “as a homage to our beloved grannies who had the patience to teach us knitting and crocheting.”

Ursula and her team of volunteer knitters have been working on the project weekly over the summer after she appealed for help.

The Granny Square Tree will be officially unveiled on Sunday, 3rd November, at 11am, in the courtyard of Sherwood Art and Craft Centre and anyone who took part in the project is invited to attend, together with members of the public.

A competition is also under way to guess how many squares were used. The proceeds from that will go towards the Alzheimer’s Society and the tree can be seen at Woolshop and Knitting studio (Unit 12) in the Sherwood Forest Art and Craft Centre, Edwinstowe.
