Coronavirus: Fundraiser will brave blindfold haircut if people donate to NHS staff at King’s Mill Hospital

Well-known local fundraiser Nathan Edge has come up with an unusual way to raise money to support NHS heroes at King’s Mill Hospital during the coronavirus crisis.

Nathan, 25, of Forest Town, who went blind at the age of 19, has been raising money for Guide Dogs ever since.

But now he has turned his fundraising eyes on helping workers at the Sutton hospital as staff there fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nathan has pledged to allow his partner, Emma, to cut his hair while blindfold – and live stream her efforts – if people will help him to raise a minimum of £50. Nathan will also match the £50 total if it is reached.

He said: “This is about our wonderful NHS workers who are courageously turning up to work day in, day out, to battle Covid-19 on the frontline.

“We’ve had an idea… I feel that I may regret this, but it should be fun and most importantly we can hopefully raise some funds for those on the frontline at our hospital tackling Covid-19.

“So here’s the plan… I understand that money is very precious at the moment so I won’t set a massive target, but if I can ask all of you to chip in just a couple of pounds and share (my social media post), I’m sure between us all we could reach a decent amount to show our support for our local health workers.

“The minimum I’d like to raise is £50. If we hit that amount, I promise to pledge £50 to the cause myself too, and if we can raise even more then that will be amazing, so please don’t stop donating if the target is met.

“Here’s the bit of the deal I might regret. If we reach that £50 total, I will reluctantly be handing a set of hair trimmers to my partner Emma and giving her permission to attempt to cut my hair, on a live stream… fully blindfolded.

“Please donate whatever you can and let’s say a big thank you to our local heroes.”
