Ex-professional football stars to join Frenbot fundraising football match

Posted onPosted on 4th Jun

At least four charities will benefit from this year’s annual Frenbot Football match.

This year’s fundraiser — at Forest Town Arena on Sunday, 3rd August — will see Frenbot FC take on Inter Legends FC, which includes former professional Football League players and is managed by Shaun Wallace, the ‘Dark Destroyer’ on television’s The Chase quiz programme.

The Frenbot team is a group of local lads trying to make a difference in their community — as they have done for the past seven years.

Inter Legends FC, visiting for the annual challenge for the first time, is a mix of iconic players, non-professionals, and dedicated individuals who share a passion for football and helping others.

The charities to benefit from the fundraising match and associated major raffle and auction will be the John Eastwood Hospice and King’s Mill Toy Appeal in Sutton; Dementia UK, and British Heart Foundation.

Frenbot organiser Craig French, who admitted that in 2024 the fundraiser was let down by the opponents not featuring as many celebrities as promised, said this year they were doing something a little different.

There will still be football, music, entertainment, food, and a raffle, but the visiting team will include former professional players.

“The more people who come, the more we can raise — and more local charities and support groups will benefit from a bunch of local lads trying to make a difference,” Craig said.

“Frenbot wouldn’t still be going if it wasn’t for all our supporters who turn up year in and year out, as well as local companies that give us some amazing raffle gifts.

“Also, thank you to stallholders, match officials, and everyone at Forest Town Arena.

“Through our events, matches, and community activities, we bring people together to support causes that matter most to our area. Whether it’s helping those in need or raising awareness for mental health, Frenbot FC is committed to making a positive impact.”

A spokesperson for Inter Legends FC said the team was created to unite players, fans, and communities through the love of football.

“We’re more than just a team — we’re building a club that brings people together on and off the pitch,” he said.

“For players, it’s about rekindling the buzz of being part of a team and the camaraderie that comes with it. For the community, it’s about creating connections and giving back through events, charities, and shared experiences.”
