Diamond couple first met at school

Posted onPosted on 15th Aug

Childhood sweethearts John and Gwennth Cordin celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at the HC-One Berry Hill Park Care Home in Mansfield.

The couple, pictured, first met at primary school in Annesley Woodhouse when they were aged eight and became involved romantically when they were 21.

After marrying in 1959, former butcher and theatre attendant John and machinist Gwennth went on to have two children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

When asked what their secret is to a long and happy marriage, the couple revealed that they always compromise with each other.

In recognition of their anniversary, the couple were overjoyed to receive a card from the Queen. They also had a celebration at Berry Hill Park, where they were joined by friends, family and fellow residents.

Sally Tebbett, home manager, said: “John and Gwennth are a lovely couple and it was a great pleasure to help them celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary at Berry Hill Park. Helping residents to make special memories like these is an important part of how HC-One helps provide the kindest care.”
