Cycling club’s coast-to-coast charity ride

Posted onPosted on 11th Jun

Ashfield Road Club cyclists will be riding 156 miles from Morecambe to Whitby on Saturday — with three of the team, Don Davis, Graham Lynk and Chris Paley, raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

A spokesman said: “Riders were in training for many months, covering hundreds of miles and thousands of feet, with a few cakes to help them on their way.”

Anyone wanting to support the ride by donating to Prostate Cancer UK can go to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/keylinecoast2coast or www.justgiving.com/fundraising/don-davis2

The club was formed in the early 1980s when a group of footballers wanted to undertake the challenge of riding to Skegness on their bikes. They enrolled the help of local cyclist Arthur Gamble and Ashfield Road Club was born.

The club has a long-standing history of successful road racing, producing professional cyclists such as Ben Swift and Scot Gamble.

Over the years the club has developed and changed as cycling has grown more popular. New members are welcome and there is a club meeting every Sunday, at 9am, from the Badger Box pub, Annesley.
