Coronavirus: Crowdfunding appeal launched to help Mansfield support groups

Posted onPosted on 3rd Apr

A crowdfunding initiative has launched to help support groups providing vital help for Mansfield residents affected by COVID-19.

Mansfield District Council has set up the Mansfield Community Response Network and pledged a donation of £25,000 to the fund, which will provide financial support for charities, voluntary and community groups.

The council is asking businesses, organisations and individuals whose circumstances allow, to donate to the fund which will help the most vulnerable residents in the district during the coronavirus outbreak. Visit www.spacehive.com/mansfield-community-response-fund to pledge your support.

As well as long-standing organisations such as Mansfield CVS and a number of foodbanks, new support groups have formed across the district thanks to residents’ generosity and willingness to help others.

Volunteers are working hard to provide essential food supplies, collect prescriptions, deliver medication, carry out emergency repairs and keep in contact with people who have no family, friends or neighbours who can help.

Mayor of Mansfield Andy Abrahams said: “The people of Mansfield have come together, as we knew they would, to help those who need it most.

“These community groups and their volunteers are helping to support the efforts of the council and its partners at a time when we are under serious pressure. They are a lifeline to so many of our residents and I’d like to thank each and every one of them.

“Although we realise these are difficult times for many businesses and individuals, we hope those who can spare some change will make a donation to the fund to enable these groups to continue providing vital support.”

The council is working with larger charities and local supermarkets to source food supplies for established foodbanks at a time when they are low on public donations and volunteers.

It has also launched Mansfield Community Hub to inform residents about the wide range of organisations and businesses that are providing support throughout the district.

Visit www.mansfield.gov.uk/coronavirus/communityhub for information on food and medication deliveries, emotional support, physical and mental activity, domestic assistance, animal welfare, plus links to educational resources.

Organisations that are offering support services can submit details via an online form on the webpage. The page is regularly updated with suitable information.

In partnership with all district and borough councils, Nottinghamshire County Council has set up the Nottinghamshire Coronavirus Community Support Hub, a searchable directory that signposts residents to support across the county. If you do not have family, friends or neighbours who can provide essential support such as food and medication, call Nottinghamshire County Council’s Customer Service Centre on 0300 500 8080 between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

If you have an urgent issue outside of these times, such as at weekends, contact Mansfield District Council’s emergency number on 01623 463050.

Those who have a medical condition, which makes them extremely vulnerable to coronavirus (COVID-19), can register on the Government’s website for support.

Residents can register themselves, or on behalf of someone else at

It may take time for any support offered through this service to arrive. Wherever possible, people should continue to rely on friends, family and wider support to help meet their needs.

Nottinghamshire County Council has set up a £1million community fund to support voluntary groups to help vulnerable people through the COVID-19 crisis.

Charities, voluntary and faith groups working across the county can apply for grant funding of £200 up to £10,000 to help meet running costs and deliver local support to those affected by this public health emergency.
