Fundraising pays off for cancer charity

Posted onPosted on 16th Oct

Mansfield couple Keith and Sylvia Johnson drove around 1,500 miles in a fundraising venture for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In September the duo, directors of LivePay, the national payroll company based in Mansfield, entered the Paris to Biarritz veteran car rally in their 1964 Daimler.

They started from the Palace of Versailles and took a route through mid-France before sections over the Pyrenees.

Although the rally was completed successfully, the car did suffer three punctures, dirty fuel and a water leak.

The couple said: “Not bad for a car nearly 60 years old.”

Before setting off, Keith and Sylvia were helped by the Naaz Indian Restaurant, Mansfield Woodhouse, which hosted a fundraising dinner for around 100 people, meaning tables had to be placed in what is normally the waiting area.

On the Sunday of their return North Notts Hockey Club held a charity match in pouring rain at the Manor Complex.

Their fundraising totalled £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support in Nottinghamshire.
