Business as usual in Mansfield town centre – with added sanitiser

Posted onPosted on 17th Mar

Shoppers are being urged to continue using Mansfield town centre’s businesses, many of which are saying it’s almost business as usual for the time being.

Many companies have taken extra precautions while the country battles with the coronavirus COVID 19 pandemic.

The Government has issued advice, particularly to people who may be more vulnerable than others, although it has so far stopped short of introducing curfews or ordering businesses to close.

Shops and venues in Mansfield town centre have therefore urged people to continue using the outlets where possible.

Nikki Rolls, chief executive at Mansfield Business Improvement District, commented: “We have some brilliant businesses in Mansfield town centre, and they are doing all they can to stay open and carry on as normal – but with increased sanitisation processes. This is the time we need to really support our local businesses.”

Nikki’s message is backed by local businesses. Adrian Moore, at Quality Shoe Repairs, in Regent Street, commented: “It’s business as usual for us, and we’ll continue to be open unless we are mandated to close by the government.”

Linda Boult, who runs the Carousel sweet shop, on the corner of West Gate, added: “We’re still open as usual, and we’re making sure that we clean the shop every 30 minutes. We’re doing what we can to help keep people safe, and we ask that shops and businesses are supported at this time.”

David Marriott, who runs Sally Twinkles, in the Handley Arcade, added: “We’ll be staying open as long as we can, and as long as we are permitted to do so. I really would ask that people support their local businesses at this time.”

Roger Brotherhood, who owns Body and Soul gym, in Handley Arcade, said: “We are, of course, following UK Government guidelines and Public Health England and England Boxing. All our sessions are running as normal, but we ask that people bring their own wraps and gloves, and wash their hands thoroughly on entering and leaving the gym. If anyone is showing any symptoms, then they should not attend the gym.”

Mandy Hague, from Dorothy Perkins, says that she is getting regular updates from head office about the constantly-changing situation.

She said: “We’re getting updates from head office all the time, and we are taking precautions to minimise any risks, such as disinfecting key areas. We’d love to see people of course, but there is the online shop too.”

The team behind andwhynot & Canvas say the venues “will remain open and will continue to do everything we possibly can to limit any exposure to our customers and staff from this fast spreading virus”.

For example, they will be introducing new measures such as “removing some tables to ensure all tables are at least one metre apart”, and “offering all our meals to takeaway to enjoy at home”.

Nikki added: “The official advice on COVID 19 is expected to change on a daily basis, and we will try to keep people aware of any changes. For the time being, please make an extra effort to support our local town centre.”
